What gets looked at in a car service?

When we ask our mechanics what’s the top tip you’d give a car owner, they always say to maintain your vehicle. A regular service helps to do just this – but what does it involve?

Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, as well as what type of service you go in for, different parts of your car will be checked and serviced.

Most services will include an oil and filter change, as well as a general check of all fluid levels. Your brakes, suspension, and steering will also be checked for wear and tear. If you have a scheduled service, like a 60,000-mile service, additional checks and services may be carried out. These can include things like a coolant flush, air filter replacement, and spark plug replacement.

Your mechanic will also check your car’s exterior and interior for any faults or damage. They’ll test all your lights, both inside and out, as well as check that your windscreen wipers are in good condition. They’ll also check your tyres, including the tread depth and tyre pressure. Finally, they’ll test drive your car to check that everything is running smoothly.

Don’t forget to get your car serviced at the recommended intervals – usually every 12 months or 12,000 miles. This will help keep your car running smoothly and prevent any big problems down the road.

Don’t be afraid to ask your mechanic about anything you’re unsure of. We are here to help and happy to talk through and advise on the different types of services we offer.

If you’re unsure what service is right for your car, or what additional checks may be carried out, it’s always best to ask a professional. We can then advise you on the different types of services we offer and which one would be best for your specific vehicle, ensuring we keep your car running smoothly.

Maintaining your car doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By keeping on top of regular servicing, you can help prevent any major issues from arising and keep it running as economically as possible. And if you do have any questions, remember – your mechanic at MBS Exeter is always happy to help!
