If you’re about to set off on a long journey, or you just want a quick check between services, we can do that for you at our workshop in Exeter.

Here are some simple checks you can easily perform yourself:

1. Ensure you have enough windscreen washer fluid, and have some spare with you in the car. It is important to have good windscreen visibility and you may find you need to wash the windscreen frequently due to the weather and grit which may be spread on the road.
2. Check your windscreen wipers are clean and working properly to get the best view.
3. Have a good look around your car for any signs of damage or wear and tear, including the tyres, exhaust system and bodywork
4. Make sure that you maintain the correct tyre pressure at all times; this can make a big difference in fuel consumption and ride comfort. Ensure you check the spare tyre too!
5. Check that all lights are working correctly – this includes headlights, brake lights, fog lights and indicators. We would suggest cleaning your lights before you set off.
6. Make sure your car is up to date with all MOTs and servicing – regular servicing is the best thing you can do to ensure your car is safe and in the best condition.
7. Keep the interior of your car organised so you aren’t tempted to scrabble around for anything.
8. Ensure your breakdown cover is up to date and that you have their details in the car.
9. Have a phone charger to keep your phone charged whilst you drive in case you need it in an emergency.
10. We always recommend having a physical map in the car; SatNavs are great until they stop working!
